Holiday Home on a Budget

Stavanger, Norway – Tommie Wilhelmsen

Built area:  24m2  (260 sq. ft.)

Casa Kolonihagen is a small summer holiday residence comprising a sleeping nook and living space. The home reflects the modern Scandinavian way of life – not too flashy, nor too common with balance being a major factor of the design.  The two rooms are contained in two blocks, both built off the ground at different heights and completely surrounded by nature.

The colours and materials were chosen to give a strong contrast between the exterior and interior.  A beautiful deck hints the way towards the entrance, which leads to the living space and then the suspended sleeping area.

According to the architect:

“The total cost for this project was only 10 thousand euro. This is a good example of a low-cost building.”

At current exchange rates, that’s only about $13,000 – not much more than the cost of a modest camper-trailer! It definitely gets an A+ in the ‘Bang for Bucks’ category’.
