Talk about a room with a view – well, this one has many!

At first it looks like a house with many randomly placed windows. But the windows are anything but random. They are meant for a specific function – the couple who owns the house are both deaf, and they use the windows to sign to the children when they are outside or on another floor.

Room Room is the extension to a family home that has become too small for the family of three generations living in it. The family bought the adjacent lot to their small and narrow home and built a space that would have the two sides facing the streets of an overcrowded residential area.

The windows are openings, 200 mm square in size, that were placed on the walls, the roof and even the floor. It’s a clever and practical idea, as well as a nice lighting scheme. Natural light and fresh air streams through the openings which gives the house breathing space. As an added touch, indoor plants are placed in areas where it can grow through the ceiling of the first level (floor of the second level).
