Re-growing food ingredients in your own yard from kitchen scraps is a good idea! Most of these don’t need a lot of garden space to grow. Some you can grow right on your windowsill and some can be planted in your vertical garden!

Re-growing foods in your own garden don’t just save you money… it ensures you and your family get to enjoy the freshest of the ingredients in your cooking.

And of course, re-growing foods will let you know exactly what chemicals have or haven’t been used on them!

Celery

After using celery and having the main part of the celery used (the celery ribs), you can re-grow the celery using the root part. You will need to remove the celery roots (not the celery ribs) and soak them in a glass of water for about 10 days.

After 10 days, replant the celery roots in a pot of fertile soil and water the plant daily for about a month.

Lemongrass

Lemon grass is a member of the grass family. It is a tropical plant that is commonly found in Asia. Lemon grass oil is a commonly used cooking herb. Lemon grass is used as a culinary herb in Asian cooking.

The rhizome, or underground stem of the lemon grass plant, is used for cooking. Try re-growing foods like lemon grass that have a lemon-like flavor that is different from lemon fruit.

And you can re-grow lemongrass right after using. First, cut the stalks into a few pieces, then put them into a glass of warm water, then wait until the lemongrass is re-growing quickly when the new roots are good enough to plant, then transfer it to a pot.

Avocado

Avocados are packed with protein, fiber, vitamin A, and potassium. They also contain heart-healthy fats and are a great source of monounsaturated fatty acids. Avocados are also free of cholesterol, making them a great option for those who follow a low-cholesterol diet.

Pineapple

If you have a pineapple plant in your yard, you’ll love this quick tip. Most people think a pineapple plant only grows one pineapple. You can harvest that pineapple and the plant will continue to grow new ones. It’s easy to re-grow pineapple.

The plant produces fruit after 10 to 15 years, and the fruit will continue to be produced each year. The pineapple grows in the tops of the plant and not the root.

To plant a pineapple, cut the crown from the pineapple and plant it in a pot containing well-draining soil. The crown will produce roots and a new pineapple after about a year. Re-growing foods like pineapple are a great choice.

Onions

Re-growing foods are never difficult, especially onions. All you need to do is to cut the onions in half and soak the other half that has roots with water. Wait until new roots grow and transfer them to a pot.

Peppers

Just sprinkle the seeds of the bell pepper, it will definitely grow faster than you could imagine!
