Crib, Stroller, High Chair! Yeheeey! Most first-time parents are excited to welcome their firstborn. It’s a special time, after all. But what exactly are they excited about? delighting

In general, new parents are excited about the idea of having a newborn, the prospect of watching their baby grow up and about the long list of things that will change as a result of becoming parents. But what if you’ll have twins?

Every child fills their parents’ hearts with joy. Being a parent to twins is an experience that doubles both love and happiness. Sure, you double the challenge of parenting, but also the moments when you feel lucky and blessed to have children!

DIY Twin High Chair

Taking care of twins is a satisfying but exhausting activity for new parents. The duration of care varies a little depending on the age of the twins, but there are some things you can expect to do every day.

A lot of the work revolves around tending to the physical needs of the twins. Twins mean twice the laughs, twice the smiles, twice the hugs and twice the love. But twins can also mean twice the diapers, twice the bottles, twice the slurping and babbling, twice the crying, and twice the need for two parents.

If you’ve got babies close in age or have had multiple births, this could be a piece of great furniture for you to have!

This DIY twin high chair project came about after realizing the owners’ small dining/living room — with an existing large dining table — cannot comfortably accommodate two more high chairs for their twins. And since they have a limited budget, buying an activity table was not a good option for them. The solution was of course to DIY the idea!

Good thing the father of the twins is good at creating crafts. He created the idea of having a high chair for his twins without having to spend a lot.

But this furniture they called the ultimate high chair is more than just a solution to their small-space-living problem. It also makes feeding and playing with their babies easier and more comfortable!

Love hosting dinner parties with close friends? No problem, the seats can be taken out and covered with a board. Brilliant idea, isn’t it?

Building a Twin High Chair

Materials

  • Dining Room Table
  • Plastic High Chair Replacement Seats
  • Wood Screws
  • Pen Marker

Tools

  • Jigsaw
  • Drill
  • Measuring Tape

Steps

Step 1: Choose the Right Table
Select a sturdy dining room table that you can modify. Ensure the table is strong enough to support the weight of two children and their high chairs. The table should have a flat, solid surface with enough room to comfortably fit both high chair seats without overcrowding the space.

Step 2: Measure the Seats
Place your plastic high chair replacement seats on the table where you want them to be installed. Use your measuring tape to ensure the placement is even and that there is enough space between the two seats for the twins to sit comfortably. Mark the areas with your pen marker where the seats will be placed.

Step 3: Trace the Seat Outlines
Once you’ve determined the perfect placement for the high chair seats, carefully trace the outline of each seat onto the table using your pen marker. This outline will serve as a guide for cutting out the sections where the chairs will be inserted.

Step 4: Cut the Holes for the Seats
Using the jigsaw, carefully cut along the outlines you traced on the table. Make sure to follow the lines closely to ensure the seats will fit snugly into the cutouts. Take your time to avoid overcutting or damaging the surrounding wood. Once the cuts are made, remove the sections from the table.

Step 5: Insert the Seats
After cutting out the spaces for the high chair seats, insert the plastic high chair replacement seats into the holes you’ve made. Make sure the seats fit securely and are level with the tabletop. If needed, make slight adjustments to the cutout areas to achieve a perfect fit.

Step 6: Secure the Seats with Wood Screws
With the seats in place, it’s time to secure them to the table. Use your drill and wood screws to fasten the high chair seats to the table. Be sure to drill through the bottom of the table, attaching the seats firmly. Check the stability by gently shaking the seats to ensure they are securely fastened and won’t move during use.

Step 7: Test for Stability
Once the seats are installed and secured, test the stability of the twin high chair. Apply pressure to the seats to ensure they are sturdy and can support the weight of your children. Check that the seats are level and evenly spaced to provide a comfortable seating arrangement for your twins.

Step 8: Add Finishing Touches
If desired, sand down any rough edges around the cutouts to prevent splinters or sharp edges. You can also paint or stain the table to match your home decor, making the twin high chair both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Step 9: Clean and Prepare for Use
Wipe down the table and the seats to remove any dust or debris left from construction. Ensure that the high chair is clean and safe for your twins before using it for mealtime or activities.

This twin high chair is not as difficult as you think. What the father did was exceptionally clever. First, he prepared the existing seats his twins already have. He then traced the outline of the seats on the surface of the table.

He then cut out a section at the top of the table and made room for the seat’s base. He used this base as a guide in tracing the outline of the seat on the surface of the table. Making sure that the seat will be safe for the twins to seat, this father is satisfied with what he has come up with.

Well, do you also have twins and are on a tight budget to buy high chairs? Then you might want to consider the idea of installing seats on the table where you can enjoy a lot of activities not just meals. 🙂

Safety Considerations for DIY Twin High Chairs

Creating a twin high chair is a great solution for parents who want to save space, keep their twins together during meals, and enjoy the satisfaction of a DIY project. However, safety must always come first. As with any piece of furniture, especially one used by young children, there are essential safety considerations to keep in mind.

Whether you’re an experienced DIYer or trying this project for the first time, here are some important factors to ensure your twin high chair is as safe as it is practical.

Securely Attach the Seats to the Table
The first and most critical safety measure for a twin high chair is ensuring the seats are securely attached to the table. If the seats are not properly fastened, there is a risk of them shifting or tipping over.

When cutting out sections of the table to accommodate the seats, make sure the cutouts are precise and that the seats fit snugly. It’s a good idea to use high-quality wood screws and brackets to reinforce the attachment. Test the stability by pressing down on the seats with force to confirm that they are fully secure and will hold the weight of your twins without wobbling.

Choose the Right Materials
Not all materials are created equal when it comes to building a DIY twin high chair. It’s important to choose durable, child-safe materials that can withstand daily use. Opt for hardwoods or sturdy plywood, which offer both strength and longevity.

Avoid materials that could easily splinter, crack, or warp over time, as this could pose a safety risk. If you’re using paint or finishes, ensure they are non-toxic and safe for children, as your babies may come into contact with these surfaces regularly.

Consider Proper Restraints
Babies and toddlers can be unpredictable, especially during meal times. To prevent falls, it’s essential to include a proper restraint system in your twin high chair. If you’re using pre-made high chair seats, they may already come with safety straps.

If not, consider installing a five-point harness system that secures your children at the waist, between the legs, and over the shoulders. This added precaution will help prevent your babies from standing up or slipping out of the chair.

Ensure Proper Height and Support
The height of the twin high chair should be such that parents could easily feed their twins. Should the chairs be either too high or too low, meal management could be uncomfortable and challenging.

Given their younger age and still developing core strength, the chair should also give the twins enough back and head support. To help the twins’ posture and maintain their comfort during feeding sessions, think about including padding or cushioning.

Regularly Check for Wear and Tear
Regular inspections are vital once your homemade twin high chair is constructed and in use. Look for any wear and tear indicators including loose screws, compromised wood, or worn-out safety straps. Because babies can be rough on furniture, twin high chair safety over time depends on constant maintenance. To prevent mishaps, tighten any loose parts and replace those needed.

Although building a twin high chair can be a fulfilling endeavor, first concern should be its safety. You can build a twin high chair that is safe, sensible, and ideal for your expanding family by securely attaching the seats, selecting durable materials, adding appropriate restraints, designing for comfort, and routinely maintaining the chair. Remember these safety issues; it will help you to relax knowing your twins are safe during dinner.

Conclusion

A twin high chair is a great way to save space when you have twins. Another benefit is to form a strong bond between the two children in a natural space. Remember to incorporate all safety protocols when building your twin high chair.
