Does your backyard need a makeover? Are you thinking of turning it into an outdoor living area for relaxation and entertaining? Then this project might be for you.
Creating a beautiful patio means more than just setting out a few chairs and hoping for the best. You’ll need to invest some time in planning. You’ll also need to do some heavy lifting now and then.
It’s all well worth the effort. With a little time and some work, you can transform your dull and often ignored backyard into a place for relaxation, light, colour, and family!
The first thing you need to establish is a hard surface for your outdoor space. Foot traffic wear patterns are the most common backyard problem. And when it rains you can instantly notice the bare patches turn to mud due to past erosion.
There are so many ways to create hard surfaces for your outdoor space. A very good example is a deck, but it requires a lot of planning and work. A great alternative is this paved patio. It offers a hard surface for your outdoor space that’s easy to make and affordable.
What are the materials needed to create a DIY paved patio?
To make the job easier and faster a concrete stencil is used. You don’t need to be an expert mason to use a concrete mould. Just follow the instructions on how to mix the concrete, fill the mould, finish the surface, take out the mould, and repeat.
There are many patterns to choose from! You can create a very unique patio that can come in a variety of different colours and shapes and will look increasingly natural as the years pass.
Materials:
- Pavers / Concrete cement
- Polymeric sand
Tools:
- Stencil (quikrete stencil)
- Shovel
The concrete stencil shown in this project resembles a cobblestone walkway…
How to create a DIY paved patio?
1. Gather the materials.
2. Locate the area where you want the paved patio.
3. Using the stencil as a pattern, add the concrete cement evenly.
4. Let it dry, and you can optionally add more sand in between the spaces.
Now, enjoy your beautiful paved patio in your garden! 🙂
