Central Bangkok Thailand – Jackson Clements Burrows
Built area: 700m2 (7,532 sq. ft.)
Melbourne, Australia based JCB have earned an enviable, well deserved global reputation. They have won many local and international awards for both residential and commercial works. This two-storey residence is located in central Bangkok, Thailand. It sits within a gated community but the adjacent homes offer views of little more than exposed balconies, downpipes and air conditioning units. This challenge lead the architects to look inward using a central courtyard. The resulting design offers a haven from the outside chaos of one of the world’s busiest cities.
Entry is via a double height breeze-way, connecting the two wings and opening up onto the swimming pool. The home works with the tropical climate by providing multiple outdoor areas and can be opened up completely. The temperature variation between the air and the pool water creates a constant light breeze. This minimises the need for air conditioning.
“This two storey residence is located in central Bangkok, Thailand. The substantial program is divided across two wings, one for children and one for parents. The house explores a courtyard typology where living and entertaining surround an expansive swimming pool blurring the distinction between indoor and outdoor space.”
