What are Gabions?
A Gabion is a constructed enclosed case full of selected materials such as rocks, stone, sand, or concrete. The gabion’s primary purpose is to prevent erosion from construction by making use of its adjustable block structure that enables slope resilience. These are commonly used in engineering projects.
Gabions are very strong structures that are typically used for erosion control, road building, and military applications. But did you know that you can also use them for many other purposes in your home?
What are the types of Gabions?
First, they were garden walls and fences. But now more and more homeowners are starting to build other things with gabions. And it makes complete sense! Not only these are easier to build than concrete, but they could also be a cheaper option if you have access to lots of free rocks and stones.
1. Wire mesh enclosed
These wire meshed gabions promote slope stability to prevent soil erosion. It is built to avoid the fall of rocks on the highway.
2. Enclosed sacks
Gabions enclosed in sacks are often used during urgent hydraulic projects.
3. Reno mattress
Reno mattresses are used for channel coating to avoid erosion. Usually, this is built with a smaller diameter when compared with other types. Ideally, the size is 6m long x 2m wide x .3m high.
4. Home decorations
Gabions are commonly used at home for garden structure and landscape ideas.
Is there anything you need for the outdoor area that you need or want to be virtually indestructible? See the different ideas we’ve collected where you can make use of gabions.
Hmm – looking at the list, it seems that gabions can be an alternative for anything you can build with concrete!
