Habitat 67 is, without question, one of the most important and iconic multi-family developments globally. But if you’re under 50 years of age, you’ve probably never heard of it. We thought we’d revisit it as it approaches its 50th anniversary.

At a time when half the western world was singing or humming Malvina Reynold’s “Little Boxes” , a young architect named Moshe Safdie dared to be different. Very different. For a start, his little boxes were prefabricated. Then they were cantilevered. Then he gave every apartment a huge deck or balcony. Fifty years on, it’s still a shining example of great architecture.
